- Hume Institute of Virginia Tech – Is working on a satellite project for FEMA, for clear national disaster preparedness and response purposes. The satellite is to be a facility for Amateur Radio operators. While disaster communications is the purpose of the satellite, it will be available to hams for hobby use during non-disaster periods, so that hams will go to the trouble of equipping their stations to communicate with the satellite.
